Here it is people! I have finally plugged all the dates into the calendar and have come up with these nights. The numbers in parathensis is the week number for that month in which we will meet.

April 28 (4) ... delayed due to Pinball At the Zoo, Kalamazoo MI
May 19 (3)
June 23 (4) ... delayed due to Father's day weekend
July 21 (3)
August 18 (3)
September 15 (3) ... also YBX's B-Day but bring cake for Wolffy and RazerX too
October 27 (4) ... delayed due to Pinball Expo, Wheeling IL
Novemeber 17 (3)

Also always it is only January and while these dates most likely won't change there may still be a reschedule needed blah, blah, blah, you know the drill.

I agree with some set of rules, but since fathers day is always an issue, I also think it would be okay to have a rule that says in June we do it the weekend before. It just seems doing right before a holiday, and what is a heavy vacation week, is sub-optimal. I believe that historically July is the month with the most unavailable players, but sometimes June is going to have a similar issue. I believe I raised this fathers days issue last year, and it was certainly not an issue for me, since I hosted. I just think we are better off moving it a week earlier.

Looking back over the las t three years, seems that more often then not we are moving it to the second week rather the fourth, so maybe that algorithm should be looked at. As Yancy pointed out, at least this year, the second week in June would result in a more consistent spacing between events. so moving to the second week as the rule I believe would have worked on all occasions and resulted in better spacing.

Believe it or not, there is a method to how we schedule. We agreed on a consistent approach to when and how we shift dates, so that the alternative dates aren't arbitrarily picked. This prevents us getting into arguments over it being more convenient for one person vs. another to attend (this has happened in the past).

This is the preferred order if there is a pinball show or holiday conflict with the 3rd Saturday of the month:
1. 4th Saturday of the month
2. 2nd Saturday of the month
3. 1st Saturday of the month

I think we should stick with this, unless there is a very good reason to deviate from it.

The results from round 1 are now posted. I wanted to post this to handle some Q&A as a result of the results:

Q: Why are these results unofficial?

A: One of the rule changes for this year call for people who attend to be guaranteed the a minimum of 24 points. Before posting I had to manually spot alternate #3 the 24 points.

Q: His league score shows zero, why?

A: The software was written under the impression that you would earn points toward a score if you play. Even though his starting score is 24 points, he doesn't appear in any matches therefore the score tabulation isn't occuring.

Q: When will his score show up?

A: In theory, as soon as he plays.

Q: How do we know that the 24 points are pending in the system?

A: As a reminder to myself I manually credited him with an EOET win, which is a field not being used this season. This will act as a flag to myself and anyone looking at the scores that I am aware of this situation.

Q: When will the scores become "official"?

A: Obviously, not until alternate #3 has a chance to play. The software maintains tables of the machines, opponents and outcomes for each round at each meet. Each player has a reference back to their match so information can be gathered. This is how the head to head matchups and machine era performance can be quickly queried. However results aren't generated for a player until that player appears in competition.

overall I like the changes. Nice to open zen up as an option for all, it seems we finish earlier now then we used to (we no longer ever have a machine being used twice in a round, which really caused issues in the past. Extra ball limits on Sterns have helped.

I'd like more info the move to 24, if that is going to come into play this season? If so, I will need to upgrade the scheduling software to accommodate it. I would expect the code changes to be minor, but I'll also need to do some long a series of runs of the analysis to figure out what the optimal rules set should be relative to maximum frequency of seeing another player, and the minimum number of different players each player must face for it to be considered an acceptable schedule. If we do go to 24, is the thought this is 6 rounds on 6 machines and you would no longer play a machine twice during the evening?

As we get ready to start a new season next month the league is making its slow march toward expansion. In order to accommodate more people the steering committee decided some changes needed to be made to accommodate this growth. Some changes are just housekeeping while others required an edit to the rules document. A new version of that document will be posted here shortly for your viewing pleasure. However here are the highlights (and lolights) of what is coming:

2010 rule modifications:

1. Minimum number of games raised from 5 to 6.
Rob and I talked about this last year, as we approach 24 players a sixth game is necessary. With 20 players a back up game is still merited. As always though if he have foresight of a month where only 12 people are showing up we can relax this requirement. :)

2. 4 player score requirement removed from game requirements section.
In 2009 the league elected to allow single and two-player EM and solid state machines. Under "the meet" section, a note has been added that players must play in the order printed on the score sheet.

3. Eliminated the 10-player B-Division Tournament Bracket
There was an error in the seeding here so out it goes! Actually with the goal of 24 people the 12 player League Tournament Bracket is now the standard bracket. That bracket will be used for League Championship Tourney, B-Division Tourney, and the Zen Tourney.

4. Attendance is fun and rewarding
Re-instated the promise that attendance results in a minimum award of 24 points by extended this benefit to sidelined alternates, regulars on injured reserved, or other pre-approved reason to come to league night but be unable to participate in the 6 round competition. (Full disclosure: I was the sole vote against this change)

5. EOET as you know it has been removed.
Instead of the top 8 participating in a zen face off, EOET is being replaced with an opt-in zen tourney. Anyone who wants to participate in the second half zen-style play simply registers with Rob. Teams will be paired in order of rank with the highest and lowest scorer becoming a team. Alternates who don't have an open roster spot can participate in Zen now. The section describing EOET has been replaced with Zen Tournament. EOET is no longer a tie-break criteria and the EOET column on the rankings page will read zero this year.

6. Come November, The League Champion Tourney must have 12 players resulting in no opening rounds with a bye. In the event one of the top 8 people are absent and can not claim their seed, the A-players will advance one seed up to fill the gab. The 4 people who win the qualifying round will claim the top 4 of the 5 open seeds and the highest seeded person not to win the qualify round will be advanced to the last open (and lowest) seed. If you are one of the majority who just play where you are told to play then effectively there is no change for you. :)

2010 Proceedure modifications:

1. All payments for the $10 food contributions will be given to Yancy who will then pay the host. Yancy will also be checking people off the list and hunt down those who do not pay up. The hosts do enough work to have their game rooms ready, they don't need to hunt down cash as one of their responsibilities.

2. Increasing the number of available alternates from 2 to 3. This is our stepping stone on our way to 24 people.

[CPM Main Forum] Final 2010 League Schedule (April date changed)

After some discussion, as a general rule, if there is a holiday/pinball event conflict with the 3rd Saturday of the month, then the 4th Saturday will be the first choice. If there is a conflict with both the 3rd and 4th Saturday, then we will go with the 2nd Saturday.

As the guy who organizes the hosting and rsvps, the 4th Saturday works much better for me.(tu):) Also, it seems that the general expectation is 4th Saturday, if not the 3rd.

With all that said the April date has changed to 4/24. I do not foresee any reason that these dates would change from this point forward. Schedule corrected below:

April 24 * - Opening Night
May 15
June 26 **
July 17
August 21
September 18
October 16
November 20 - Tournament Night

* Meet the 4th Saturday due to Pinball At The Zoo
** Meet the 4th Saturday due to Fathers day

To finish up my own thread :)

I was able to resolve my jumbled video screen by opening up the back glass and checking all of my connections. I press all of the ribbons (to make sure they were secure), along with the batteries. Something must have just come loose in moving it around, as on the next power up it was perfectly fine.

Thanks again for the help.. now I worry for the day I have a real problem :)

[CPM Main Forum] stereo receiver (yeah, OT I know)

A bit of a longshot, but does anyone out there have an old stereo receiver they don't need?

I blew up the one I use to drive speakers in my pinball area, so I need a replacement. Doesn't have to be anything good; just looking to prevent something going into the landfill.

Thanks!

Thank you for your reply - much appreciated.

I opened the cabinet back up and tried to put the fuse in, this time making sure that the words FUSE were on top. This worked, and I was able to power the game back up again.

Now I just need to figure out why my video screen is seemingly scrambled all of the sudden.. *sigh*
